Asulkan Cabin

It was one of those years. But Brian came. Val too. As well as the usual suspects. So it was great!

Balu Pass

Still pretty scruffy in the pass but the hotel is looking good.

Mount McCrae

First turns of the season for us. McCrae is just south of Revelstoke on the east side of the Columbia. 30km of logging roads got us right to the snow line.

Waterworld

I don't often write up rock climbing days but Waterworld is pretty special. I forget what climbs we did. The two easiest ones!

East Ridge Mount Edith Cavell

Ross and I climbed the East Ridge a long, long time ago. We have such great memories from that day. Certainly one of the best days out we've ever had in the mountains. Except for the West Ridge descent which we resolved to never, ever do again. What. A. Slog.

Brenda has listened to us rave about this climb for many years and declared that we were to climb it again. With a bivy. And a descent back down the East Ridge.

So we did.

If you're going to bivy don't mention it to Parks because "the climb can be done in a day from the road". Running water can be found far down on the south side of the col. We encountered an absolutely fearless packrat that tried to drag away both Ross's bivy sack and my pack. We carried 2x30 meter ropes. Unused on the way up and tied together for rappelling on the descent.

Aftonroe is a 9 pitch route on Guide’s Rock Mount Cory between Banff and Lake Louise.

All the photos are from Ross's album.

Eagle Peak Traverse N Ridge to SE Ridge

We'd previously climbed Eagle by the SW Ridge. We'd also done a traverse up the N Ridge and down the SW Ridge. So just to be different this time we went up the N Ridge and descended via the SE Ridge.

Hiking towards the Avalanche-Eagle Col

The route up the N Ridge from the Avalanche-Eagle Col

Dave and Steve somewhere along the N ridge

Dave and Brenda on the N Ridge. Getting tedious. Should have stayed closer to the ridge crest.

The only interesting bit on the SE Ridge

Our route down the SE Ridge. It was pretty tedious. Not sure if it was the best.
